Northumberland Honey Co
Born out of a love for Champagne and a passion for Beekeeping
Northumberland Honey Company is a working bee farm and meadery in the Heart of Hadrians Wall country.
Founded in 2015, today Suzie and Luke with their apprentice beekeepers keep 200 colonies of bees producing pure honey for sale and also a range of sparkling mead for sale.
The future of bees and beekeeping is being safeguarded here, as the next generation of beekeepers are trained at Northumberland Honey Co through the Bee Farmers Association apprenticeship scheme.
The honey bees are cared for in a sustainable way also meaning honey for sale is kept pure and natural honey available in either jars or comb.
Traditional method Sparkling Mead is produced along similar principles to Champagne, taking over 2 years to create a bottle. Each Sparkling Mead is an expression of the different honey the bees produce. Being a working meadery, Northumberland Honey Co undertake all production in Haltwhistle and are the first meadery in the UK to produce a traditional method Sparkling Mead.
Mead is the most sustainable alcoholic drink you can enjoy, specifically at Northumberland Honey Co, bee numbers are increasing at a rate of around 3,000 per bottle. Now that is a good reason to make a mead drink your drink of choice.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. Using honey to create a mead drink that is at the top of the industry, we are elevating the profile of the honey bee, positively contributing to the environment, ensuring vital beekeeping skills are not lost for future generations and encouraging people to drink different, drink better, and drink mead.
Pure Northumberland Honey
Natural, raw and pure honey, produced by our bees in the heart of Hadrians Wall Country across Northumberland and into Cumbria.
We produce a range of honey including, Soft Set Wildflower, Heather, Added Pollen, Summer Runny Honey and a new Cumbrian Wildflower Honey.
Sparkling Mead Traditional Method
Sparkling Mead is the bee equivalent of Champagne and Sparkling Wine. Produced from the finest Northumberland Honey rather than using grapes.
Sparkling Mead has the potential to be one of the most sustainable alcohols out there. Increasing bee numbers by around 3,000 with every bottle consumed!
Now that’s something to raise a glass to!
Bees and Queen Bees
Bee breeding underpins all the work that we do at Northumberland Honey Co. We produce in excess of 1,000 queen bees per year, for sale to other beekeepers and for our own use in our honey production colonies.
